Powerwell is a leading recruitment firm helping our clients discover top talent. We’re recruiting for a Plant Controller. Candidates must be able to work onsite in Victoria, TX.

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Plant Controller with a strong background in the construction industry and/or project-based accounting. This position is responsible for managing all aspects of financial and accounting operations, including oversight of job costing, percentage of completion tracking, inventory and cash management, ERP systems, and contract analysis. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in a controller role or equivalent and a demonstrated ability to lead a finance team in a project-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the full cycle of accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, and financial reporting.
  • Implement and manage job costing systems and processes, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting of construction project costs.
  • Apply and monitor the percentage of completion accounting method for revenue recognition and project profitability.
  • Supervise inventory control processes related to construction materials and supplies.
  • Manage cash flow and cash collections in relation to project milestones and billing schedules to ensure adequate liquidity for operations.
  • Analyze and manage contracts for financial risk, billing structures, compliance, and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and review financial statements and reports, ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal policies.
  • Oversee sales tax filing and compliance, including acquiring, validating, and maintaining exemption certificates.
  • Lead internal audits and support external audits
  • Provide financial insights to executive leadership for strategic decision-making.
  • Develop and enforce internal controls and company accounting policies.
  • Manage and work with an additional accounting staff/team of approximately four individuals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred but not required).
  • Minimum five years’ experience in a controller role, preferably in the construction or project-based industry.
  • Strong knowledge of job costing, project management accounting, and percentage of completion methods.
  • Experience with ERP and accounting systems, preferably Epicor, QuickBooks and QuickBase.
  • Proven ability to manage sales tax processes, including exemption certificate management.
  • High attention to detail, analytical mindset, and strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
