SUMMARY:

Clinical Laboratory Specialists, also known as Medical Laboratory Scientists or Medical Technologists, perform various laboratory tests and analyses to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. They work in clinical laboratories and healthcare settings, utilizing advanced laboratory equipment and techniques.

FUNCTIONAL DUTIES:

  • Laboratory Testing: Perform a wide range of laboratory tests, including hematological, biochemical, microbiological, immunological, and molecular tests. Follow standard operating procedures and protocols to ensure accurate and reliable results.
  • Sample Collection and Handling: Collect patient specimens, such as blood, urine, tissue, or other bodily fluids, using sterile techniques. Prepare and label samples for testing, ensuring proper storage, transport, and preservation.
  • Instrumentation and Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain laboratory instruments, such as microscopes, centrifuges, analyzers, and automated systems. Calibrate and troubleshoot equipment as necessary to maintain accurate and precise results.
  • Quality Control and Assurance: Perform quality control procedures to monitor and verify the accuracy and precision of laboratory tests. Document and analyze quality control data, take corrective actions when necessary, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Data Analysis and Interpretation: Analyze laboratory test results, interpret findings, and generate accurate reports. Consult with healthcare professionals to discuss test results, provide additional information, and assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
  • Research and Development: Participate in research and development activities to improve laboratory techniques, procedures, and technologies. Stay updated on advancements in laboratory science and contribute to the implementation of new methodologies or technologies.
  • Laboratory Safety and Compliance: Adhere to strict safety protocols and practices in the laboratory to minimize risks and ensure the safety of personnel and patients. Follow all applicable regulations, guidelines, and quality assurance standards.
  • Workflow and Time Management: Prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently, ensuring timely completion of laboratory tests and reporting of results. Coordinate with other laboratory staff and healthcare professionals to ensure smooth workflow and timely communication of critical findings.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of laboratory tests, procedures, and results. Enter data into laboratory information systems or electronic health records accurately and promptly.

Requirements include:

  • 1+ years of hands on clinical laboratory experience
  • Bachelors degree preferred for technicians that are a Level II or above
  • Active CLS preferred
