Job Summary This is a Part-Time Instructor Pool in our Continuing Education Workforce Development (CEWD) department for available assignments during the academic year. Applications are considered throughout the academic year and reviewed based on departmental needs. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include working days, evenings and/or weekends.
May require travel to our main campus in Alvin and/or to various offsite locations, including local high schools in Alvin, Danbury, Manvel and Pearland and to Texas Department of Criminal Justice facilities in Richmond, Rosharon or Lake Jackson.

Essential Duties SUMMARY Group Fitness Instructors are responsible for leading and delivering group fitness instruction ranging in variety and level from aerobic activity, muscular strength, stretch, dance, yoga, or disciplines. This includes developing and organizing choreography, movement sequencing and progression, cueing participants set up, safety, execution, and more.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Leads engaging, fun, safe and educational group classes for students and community members
- Creates a welcoming environment for individuals of all fitness levels while encouraging and motivating participants
- Answers questions from participants to assist in supporting them to meet their health and wellness goals
- Keeps accurate class attendance records
- Maintains group fitness equipment and room
- Attends required trainings, workshops and department meetings as required
- Other duties as assigned
WORK ENVIRONMENT The incumbent typically works in a group fitness classroom space. These spaces are often shared and can be loud.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS The employee is regularly required to demonstrate and or lead classes. Providing choreography, modifications and other demonstrations as required. The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to twenty (20) pounds.
Minimum Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
EDUCATION - Group Exercise/Fitness Instructor certification from a nationally recognized organization (AFFAA, ACE, ACSM, etc.) and/or a registered Yoga instructor, Zumba or Pilates instructor.
- Must hold & maintain CPR/AED & First Aid certification.
EXPERIENCE - Must have experience leading group fitness classes.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - General knowledge of general fitness, wellness, and human anatomy as it relates to human movement and muscular conditioning
- Posses the knowledge, skills and ability to safely lead group fitness classes ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all students
- Must have the knowledge, skill and ability to safely instructor and lead students of all abilities in group fitness classes
